Boston Birding

Grammy, daddy and me tried to find a Lesser Black-back Gull and we did at our first stop at Christopher Columbus Park. it was really cold out and there were lots of gulls. There was a Brant there. a life bird! Also some dogs there that ate some of our bread on the ground.

  1. Owen - You've overtaken us in your year's birds! We just hit 70 last night, when we heard a Great Horned Owl in the woods behind our house. Have you ever gone to Cornell University's Ornithological (BIG WORD!) Lab on the Internet, where there are descriptions, photos, and sounds of birds? That's how we identified it as a Great Horned Owl, rather than a Barred Owl. I was wondering if your father explained how to tell the difference between a Greater and a Lesser Black-backed Gull - we would be able to tell the difference if they were standing next to each other, but aren't sure if we could if we saw a Lesser-backed all by itself.
